February is many things, including Gum Disease Awareness Month. With that in mind, our team at Dossett Dental wants to share three things you can do to fight periodontal problems.

1. Brush & Floss

According to surveys, most people brush their daily, but less than half of all people floss every day. That’s unfortunate because daily flossing is the best way to remove harmful bacteria, plaque, and food particles that are between your teeth and gums.

2. Get Check-ups

No matter how well you brush and floss, you will benefit from making professional care part of your dental routine. Come to see us for professional cleanings and exams to prevent periodontal problems or to catch them in the early stages.

3. Act Early

Your gums should be pink and firm. They should not bleed.

You should seek gum disease treatment if you show these signs:

  • Red, swollen gums
  • Bleeding gums
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Loose teeth
  • Receding gums
  • Sore or tender gums
  • Pimple-like bumps on your gums
