Dr. Gilbert Barrett Uses His Advanced Training To Transform His Patients’ Smiles

Dr. Gilbert Barrett uses his extensive experience to provide the highest level of dental care in a gentle and compassionate manner.

Dr. Barrett received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Texas A&M Health Science Center – Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, then served active duty as a United States Army Captain for five years. During his time in the Army, he distinguished himself as resident of the year in 2011 from the Army’s Advanced Education in General Dentistry program, Fort Benning, Georgia, and was mentored by top oral surgeons, periodontists, and endodontists. Their mentorship helped him learn sedation dentistry, wisdom teeth extraction, guided surgical implant placement, and special techniques in local anesthesia for endodontics. He was also the CAD/CAM liaison and trainer for the Army Dental Corps while at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Dr. Barrett extended his training by completing an implant residency with Triangle Dental Institute in Durham, North Carolina from 2014 to 2015. He also completed the intensive Trinon Collegium Practicum Q-Implant Marathon course that same year.

Dr. Barrett’s professional affiliations also include the following:

  • Fellow, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists
  • Fellow, the Academy of General Dentistry
  • Member, the Texas Dental Association
  • Member, the American Dental Association

Dr. Barrett takes an evidence-based, compassionate approach to dentistry. His pursuit of continuing education with modern dental procedures makes care more predictable and enjoyable. To provide patients a comfortable environment, Dr. Barrett is trained in level 3 IV sedation and nitrous oxide. Safety is a high priority for him, too, so he is trained and certified for ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). He also uses an ECG/CO2 monitor to measure heart rate and CO2 levels during procedures.

Dr. Barrett fulfilled his military service and moved home to DFW in 2016 with his wife, Kayla, to reunite with their parents, siblings, and friends. Their hobbies include archery, gardening, scuba diving, and spending time together with their son, Dan, and their extended family trying out new recipes for smoked meat and barbecue.
