Dr. Gilbert Barrett uses his extensive experience to provide the highest level of dental care in a gentle and compassionate manner. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Texas A&M Health Science Center – Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. Following dental school, Dr. Barrett served active duty as a Captain in the United States Army for five years. During his time in the Army, he distinguished himself as resident of the year in 2011 from the Army’s Advanced Education in General Dentistry program, Fort Benning, Georgia. During that time he was mentored by top oral surgeons, periodontists, and endodontists, and he learned sedation dentistry, third molar exodontia, guided surgical implant placement, and special techniques in local anesthesia for endodontics. He was also the CAD/CAM liaison and trainer for the Army Dental Corps while at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Dr. Barrett extended his training by completing an implant residency with Triangle Dental Institute in Durham, North Carolina in 2014-2015. He also completed the Trinon Collegium Practicum Intensive Q-Implant Marathon course that same year. Dr. Barrett is also a trained Fellow with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Furthermore, he has met all the requirements to become a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and was recognized in Boston in July 2016. Dr. Barrett’s compassionate dental practice philosophy uses an evidence based approach where his pursuit of continuing education with the modern dental procedures make dentistry more predictable and the patient experience more enjoyable. Dr. Barrett is trained in level 3 I.V. sedation and nitrous oxide administration to provide a comfortable environment. Safety is high priority as he is trained and certified for ACLS and PALS. He utilizes an ECG/ CO2 monitor to ensure the highest level of safety for his patients.
Dr. Barrett fulfilled his military service and moved home to DFW in January 2016 with his wife, Kayla, in order to be reunited with their parents, siblings, and friends. Their hobbies include archery, gardening, scuba diving, and spending time together with their son Dan and their extended family trying out new recipes for smoked meat and barbeque. Dr. Barrett is also a member of the Texas Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
